We make good men better

History of Hoover Lodge
In September of 1962, a letter was sent to the District Deputy Grand Master of the 21st Masonic District, stating that there were several Masons interested in starting a Masonic Lodge in North Canton. There were many Masons in the area who belonged to Lodges in Ohio, but outside of the local area. There was little doubt the area could support a lodge. It was a slow and demanding process, with much to be considered: Finances, finding a proper meeting place and officers to serve the lodge as well as future officers and candidates. Through hard work and perseverance, an organizational meeting was finally held in May of 1964. A month later, the number 770 was adopted in anticipation of being the 770th lodge chartered. Shortly thereafter, approval was received to use the name of William H. Hoover for the lodge, Brother Hoover having distinguished himself in Masonry and Community Service.  Officers were selected and the Lodge opened in quarters located in the Wise Building on the North Canton Square.

The Fire & Current Temple
On the night of July 27, 1972, tragedy struck as a fire destroyed the Wise Building and with it, all of the furniture and furnishings of the Lodge.  The facilities of the Canton Masonic Temple were made available while a search for a new location was conducted.  The property on which the current building stands became available and funds were pledged in a sufficient amount to begin construction.  Ground breaking was held on June 24, 1979 and the cornerstone laid on September 20, 1980.  After much hard work by many individuals (several of whom were members of the Lodge) the North Canton Masonic Temple was Dedicated on August 21, 1981 by the Grand Master of Masons in Ohio, Most Worshipful Brother Edgar L. Miller.
